Mikey Reyes, FilmmakerMy Key Films is a production company created to promote the films and talent of filmmaker Michael Reyes know more as "Mikey." Mikey now resides in New York city but was raised in the multicultural border city of El Paso, Texas. Mikey’s large and tight nit family on both his mother and father side has helped fuel and inspire many of his stories. Mikey has traveled all over the U.S., Mexico, the Caribbean, Japan, Indonesia and Singapore.

Mikey has over 15 years of filmmaking experience. His early years were self taught through experimental filmmaking until he embarked onto his academic filmmaking career. Mikey obtained his Radio, Television and film B.A. from the University of Texas at Austin. While at the University of Texas at Austin others heard of Mikey’s talent and success as a writer, Director and Director of Photography and was sought out by many including graduate film students for their thesis films. Mikey also worked in Austin area on films like Texas Chainsaw Massacre, A Scanner Darkly, Fast food Nation and the academy award nominated documentary “Trouble the Water”.

Mikey ReyesHoping to make a career out of directing films, Mikey moved to the center of independent filmmaking-New York City. Mikey has now completed the challenging course work on his M.F.A. degree at the prestigious New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts in the Maurice Kanbar Institution of Film and Television. He has studied under Spike Lee (Inside Man, Malcolm X, Do the Right Thing), Sandi Sissel (Master and Commander, Blow, Mr and Mrs. Smith) Tony Jannelli (Silence of the Lambs, Philadelphia, The Manchurian Candidate) and many other talented and successful professionals. Mikey’s credits include writing and directing numerous short films that have been accepted in various film festivals around the country. He is also a very sought after Director of Photography.

Mikey was the Director of Photography on “Son’s of the Rodeo” a successful UT Austin Graduate short that was an official selection of the internationally acclaimed “South by Southwest film festival” , the “Vail Film Festival” and won best film at “Spinfest”Mikey was also the Director of Photography on the successful NYU short film “Mr. Brooklyn” which won various festival awards including “Best Student Narrative Film” at the 33rd Carolina Film and Video Festival and won “Best Fiction Award” at the “Open Apperture Short Festival.”Another successful NYU short Film that Mikey was the Director of Photography on was “Birthdate” which was an official selection at the “Palm Springs International Film festival”, the “Sedona International Film Festival” , the “Phoenix film Festival and many more.

Mikey’s 15 year film career has resulted in him working on over 100 film projects.He has written numerous short films, features and T.V. commercials. Presently he has various projects in the works under his own Film production company “My Key Films”.

Mikey's NYU thesis film "Red Sands" has been completed and its currently being sent to film festivals. He has completed all the requirements to obtain his Masters from NYU Graduate Film program.
